Pileated Fledgling

We have discovered a new addition to our forest, a Pileated Woodpecker fledgling. This young one seems to have no fear of us, even while mom watches from above. Pileated woodpeckers need a very large forested area to survive, so far so good. Having had two mature trees fall this past winter, we left the large stumps. As they slowly decay, creatures like the woodpeckers will have another food source.

Have not seen the ravens for a while. We'll see if they return next year, same time, same place?
