With temperatures in the negative Celsius, the mantle of snow gradually evaporates, and now, another 10cm of snow expected tonight. We have comforts of great joy spreading seed in the winter. Not only does it fuel the birds, the raccoons and deer polish off the remnants during the night. This boulder will be licked clean by morning. In previous years we
had a bird feeder, italicize '
had '. Why not spread the seed on the ground. Seems a feeder swinging in the air was a nuisance. Not to me, to the creatures who needed a snack. They seemed to think that it belonged on the ground, so.....on the ground it is, without the box.

This
Stellers Jay (British Columbia's provincial bird) is camera shy. I have a 'hide' to take photos. If he even catches a slight bit of movement, he is in flight. Same with this Northern Flicker. I am giddy when I can say 'gotcha'. Today was a double giddy day.
Tomorrow, a varied thrush. Wait for it.
