The Plum Bandit

The neighbours have asked if I would like their plums as they ripen. (Yellow plum jam for my guests, how sweet!) Seems they have two raccoons going up in the tree, shaking it,
then down to the ground to see if they are ripe. Teeth marks and bites in practically every plum. Common' guys, at least walk away if they aren't to your satisfaction! I have barely enough for one batch of jam. Guests this morning will have the first taste of Autumn.
I have also made a batch of Salal jam. A very woodsy aroma and taste. Salal is usually a greenery for floral arrangements, only native to the pacific northwest (British Columbia and Washington) so few know about the berry. We will have salal cobbler this week, a real treat. Takes a while to pick the berries as they are quite sticky and the best ones are always in the bush, just a few inches, too far away. Hmmmmm
